I couldn’t tell you how long Cannon Fort has been around on Cat Ba Island, but I can tell you it’s an interesting place to visit.
I popped up here quickly one afternoon, and was amazed with the relics you could see from the war era. On a self-guided tour around the place, I saw some pretty cool things – ranging from huge anti-aircraft guns (I’m speculating here – I know nothing about guns), old empty ammunition boxes and an interesting system of small caves used for storage of the ammunition.
On top of that, it’s a pretty impressive view from the top. If nothing else, the view makes the trip worthwhile.
As with all things in Vietnam, expect to pay a fee for getting in. I was charged 40,000 VND for my trip.
To tempt you to visit, here’s some shots from the top!
